Taiwan is on high alert during the US elections. That was the word from Defense Minister Yen Teh-fa at the legislature on Wednesday.
Yen said that the military is on high alert due to the increased threat from the Chinese Communisty Party. He also told the public to not worry as the military is monitoring and responding to every move in the Taiwan Strait.
When asked about the new arms package of sophisticated drone systems proposed by the US State Department on Tuesday, Yen said that the budget would need to be approved by the legislature first. He said the ministry would inform the public when the recent arms packages are approved by the US Congress. The relevant budgets will then need to be approved by Taiwan’s legislature before they are procured.
The Trump administration has proposed 10 arms packages. Three packages have been proposed in the past two weeks. The recent deals include sophisticated drones, standoff land attack missiles, High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems rocket launchers and Harpoon Coastal Defense Systems.
