The foreign ministry says that both the US Republican and Democratic parties support a free and democratic Taiwan.
On Thursday, as the US continued to count votes in its 2020 election, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou said that there has been a highly bipartisan consensus on Taiwan issue in the United States. Ou also says that Taiwan’s government has long maintained close and friendly ties with people from both camps. Ou says that Taiwan will continue deepening its ties with the US.
Ou’s comments were echoed by Cabinet spokesperson Ting Yi-ming. Ting said Taiwan and the United States have shared values and goals. Ting said that the US mainstream will support Taiwan and democracy regardless of who wins the 2020 US Presidential Election.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Office says it is closely monitoring the election, though it will neither comment on other countries’ internal affairs nor take any position on them.
