Taiwan, the United States, and the Caribbean island nation of St. Lucia have held online forums aimed at furthering trade and economic exchanges.
The two forums took place on Thursday, and are the first ever such forums held between the three nations. The first forum focused on searching for cooperative investment opportunities, while the second featured discussions about virtual innovation.
The two forums also had the additional goals of helping companies find business opportunities in countries that maintain diplomatic ties with Taiwan, countries that include St. Lucia. In addition, the forums sought both to help companies from nations that recognize Taiwan develop and to help them respond to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to Taiwan’s foreign ministry, Taiwan’s embassy in St. Lucia, and Taiwan’s representative office in the US, St. Lucia’s commerce department, and the US Embassy to Barbados also took part in the online forums—the US Embassy to Barbados also represents the US in St. Lucia.
