Premier Su Tseng-chang says that Taiwan will respect the outcome of the US presidential election, regardless of who wins. Su was speaking Friday, as several US battleground states continued to tally ballots.
Su said that Taiwan has good relations with both main US political parties. He also said that President Tsai Ing-wen’s period in office has seen Taiwan-US relations greatly improve. He said the US has shown more support for Taiwan than before, and the US Congress has reaffirmed acts that are friendly to Taiwan.
Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua has echoed Su’s statement, saying that the current state of Taiwan-US relations is mutually beneficial. She said that bilateral trade and Taiwan’s economy will continue to benefit from Taiwan’s close ties with the US no matter which candidate wins the US presidential election.
