Local governments across Taiwan are doing all they can to help their tourism industries recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. By and large, Taiwan’s people have responded favorably to these efforts. But the price of one recently-offered travel package led to many raised eyebrows. How much is too much?
Would you consider US$588 per person for a three-day, two-night trip to be expensive? That’s how much a recent travel package taking in famous sites across three Taiwan counties costs.
Many have reacted with surprise to this hefty price tag—hefty, at least, for domestic travel in Taiwan. For that price, some say, you could travel a full halfway across the island.
On the first day, the trip takes you to one of only two roundhouses for trains in Asia. From there, travelers go to enjoy street food at Lukang’s old street and tour the Taiwan Glass Gallery. For the night, you will stay at what’s being touted as one of the world’s most luxurious hotels.
The second day brings you to the Lukang Longshan Temple and continues with a side trip to see the work of skilled wood and tin craftsmen. After that, travelers find themselves sipping genuine Taiwanese tea in the neighboring Nantou County. For dinner that night, travelers will enjoy the equivalent of a state banquet.
On the third day, travelers visit the Chung Tai World Museum and then hop on over to Sun Moon Lake for afternoon tea on a yacht.
Given all this, is US$588 per person really too much to ask?
