The World Health Organization says vaccines jointly produced by the US-based Pfizer and Germany’s BNT are likely to be available in March for those in need. The WHO said the R&D in vaccines will fundamentally change the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says it is still possible for Taiwan to buy COVID-19 vaccines produced by BNT or BioNTech.
The Taiwan-based TTY Biopharm Company once received the right to buy vaccines from BNT. However, the purchase plan hit a snag after the health ministry and BNT failed to reach a consensus on pricing and the number of vaccines.
Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Control Center said Taiwan has already signed an agreement with COVAT, a COVID vaccines platform. Taiwan might be able to buy COVID vaccines through COVAX in the future.
