Commission releases new batch of files on martial law era dissidents
The Transitional Justice Commission has released a sixth batch of secret files kept on dissidents from Taiwan’s martial law era.

The Transitional Justice Commission has released a sixth batch of secret files kept on dissidents from Taiwan’s martial law era.

The 137,000 files come from the archives of 33 government agencies and detail surveillance of both dissidents and their family members. Some later files also show that this surveillance continued in some cases up to the year 2000, well after the lifting of martial law in 1987.

On Wednesday, the commission held an event to report on the files. It invited the relatives of dissidents to attend the event and share their experiences and feelings about the years of surveillance their families were subjected to.
