“Taiwan Can Help” display draws attention in Geneva
Taiwan's representative office in Geneva erected a "Taiwan Can Help" display outside of the UN's headquarters

Taiwan’s representative office in Geneva has erected a billboard reading “Taiwan Can Help” outside of the UN’s Geneva Office. The display is meant to rally support for Taiwan’s inclusion in the WHO’s decision-making body, the World Health Assembly.

The assembly is currently holding its annual meeting. Normally, assembly meetings take place in Geneva, though this year’s meeting is taking place virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Taiwan previously took part in the assembly’s meetings as an observer, but it has now been barred from the meetings for several years due to pressure from China.

Ambassadors from countries like the US and eSwatini have taken pictures with the display, voicing their support for Taiwan’s return to the assembly.

On Thursday, Taiwan’s representative office in Geneva also published a stop-motion video featuring a Formosan black bear doll. The video is meant to express Taiwan’s willingness to participate in the assembly, and Taiwan’s Geneva office is encouraging people to leave comments and voice their own support for Taiwan’s bid to return to assembly meetings.
