Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Chen Chern-chyi is scheduled to leave for the US on Monday night to engage in trade talks with American officials. Taiwan and the United States are set to meet at the negotiation table on November 20 to discuss future economic collaboration. The trade talks will take place both in-person and in virtual formats.
Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua says the talks will begin on Friday at 9PM Taiwan time, and will last for at least three hours. She says that there is an 80% chance the two sides will sign a memorandum of understanding, but she was mum on Taiwan’s prospects of signing a bilateral trade agreement with the US.
Chen will touch down in New York and immediately head to Washington DC, arriving a few days ahead of the talks. Wang says that Chen’s itinerary in America will be handled by Taiwan’s representative office in the United States.
