Taiwan is once again invited to attend the 2020 Ministerial to Advance Freedom of Religion or Belief. The foreign ministry on Tuesday said that in a pre-recorded video, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu will share Taiwan’s efforts in religious freedom in collaboration with the international community. Wu also announced the foreign ministry’s plan to host a forum on defending religious freedom in 2021 in Taipei.

Wu said for the last several years, the world has witnessed severe violations of religious freedom. He cited Beijing’s oppression of Muslims in Xinjiang as opposed to religious freedom in Taiwan which is protected by the constitution.

The foreign ministry said this is the third year that Taiwan has been invited to attend the conference which is hosted by Poland this year. The meeting was started by the US State Department for human rights development to help the voices of the few minority groups under religious oppression to be heard.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s representative to the US, Hsiao- Bi-khim has been invited to speak at the International Religious Freedom Roundtable on Tuesday in the US.
