Taiwan has seen one new imported COVID-19 case, bringing the total number of infections to 619. That’s the word from the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Monday.

The new case is a Taiwanese man in his 50s, who has already returned to Taiwan after testing positive for COVID-19 in Ghana. The patient boarded a self-paid medical charter flight, which is unprecedented.

As Taiwan has seen imported cases almost every day recently, the government has announced that arrivals must submit negative test results taken three days prior to boarding. The new rule that applies to arrivals and transferring passengers will become effective from December 1 to the end of February 2021.

Opposition KMT lawmaker Chiang Wan-an called the rule unconstitutional. In an interview at the Legislature on Tuesday, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung said he will study the matter further and submit a relevant report to the Legislature within a week.
