European parliamentarians passed two pro-Taiwan resolutions earlier this week. Under the two resolutions, the EU will support Taiwan’s bid to join the World Health Organization, encourage Europe and Taiwan to sign a bilateral investment agreement, and strengthen ties with Taiwan in the areas of public health and economic development.
Taiwan is barred from participating in the World Health Organization due to pressure from China, which claims Taiwan as part of its territory.
The foreign ministry thanked the parliamentarians on Friday for passing the two resolutions. The foreign ministry says that by passing the two resolutions, the EU endorses Taiwan’s efforts to fight COVID-19.
