Taiwan’s representative to the US Hsiao Bi-khim said she hopes Taiwan and the US will begin talks on a bilateral trade agreement soon. Hsiao was speaking on Tuesday at a webinar hosted by the Atlantic Council of the US. The webinar was focused on the future of Taiwan-US economic relations.
Hsiao said Taiwan and the US are highly complementary and this is reflected in the entire supply chain system. She cited the examples of Apple and Tesla’s components being made in Taiwan. Hsiao said a bilateral trade pact will help both economies.
Hsiao also cited the increased need to build supply chains for 5G, the Internet, and AI between countries. She said it is all the more important for Taiwan and the US to establish security among industries.
Taiwan’s representative to the US said Taiwan’s national security is an indispensable factor in regional peace and stability. Therefore Taiwan and the US must set up a new trade framework so Taiwan will not be affected by regional politics.
