President Tsai Ing-wen says the government has set itself two tasks meant to strengthen Taiwan’s biotech sector. Tsai was speaking Thursday at the 2020 Healthcare Expo Taiwan.
Tsai said the first task is speeding up the health industry’s digital transformation. Tsai says that digitization is taking place worldwide because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She said that Taiwan is relatively advanced in terms of digitization in the medical field. She said that now, the goal is to make Taiwan a global base for digital medicine by adopting AIoT technology and key technologies such as instant data transmission and cloud computing.
Tsai said that the second task is ensuring supplies of medical materials. These include tests, medical equipment, and raw materials for making medicines and vaccines. She said that the government will take stock of these materials’ domestic supplies and use policies to encourage cooperation between companies up and down supply chains.
