VIDEO: Oil extracted from Chad arrives in the southern city of Kaohsiung

A shipment of 950,000 barrels of crude oil extracted from the African county of Chad has arrived in the southern city of Kaohsiung.

The crude oil was extracted from an oil field managed by Taiwan’s state-owned oil producer.

Kaohsiung Habor welcomed the arrival of 950,000 barrels of crude oil from Chad on Tuesday.

CPC, Taiwan’s state-owned oil producer, held a ceremony to mark the occasion. This is the first time in 17 years that the company has had some luck in its overseas oil exploration projects.

At the ceremony, a documentary was played showing the hard work of 160 company staff who faced difficulties and poor living conditions during their time in Africa.

CPC spokesman Chang Ray-chung says the company will adjust its oil exploration efforts, depending on domestic demand and the international situation. Chang says CPC’s biggest goal is to continue finding other overseas oil fields, using the successful model it used in Chad. That’s because CPC hopes to make more direct contributions to stabilizing Taiwan’s energy resources.
