The foreign ministry says Washington’s decision to sell Taiwan Field Information Communications System (FICS) fully demonstrates its recognition of Taiwan’s defense needs. That’s the word from Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou on Tuesday.
Ou said the latest arms sale is the sixth one this year and the 11th package for the Trump administration. Ou said Washington’s gradual normalization of its mechanism of arms sales to Taiwan will help boost Taiwan’s defense and deterrence capabilities.
Defense Minister Yen De-fa said on Tuesday that the communications system used by field troops can help upgrade the military’s information system and defense abilities. The system consists of 154 Communications Nodes with S-788 Type III shelter, 24 Communication Relays with S-788 Type III shelter, 8 Network Management Systems with S-788 Type III shelter, and other related equipment and technical support.
Many government agencies have expressed their appreciation to the US for the arms sale, which is estimated at US$280 million. The foreign ministry, the defense ministry and the Presidential Office said strengthening Taiwan’s defense abilities will help maintain regional peace and stability.
