Norwegian athlete wins again with lucky Taiwanese cap
Gustav Iden wins the triathalon in Daytona, Florida

A Norwegian athlete is famous in Taiwan because he has won many global competitions while wearing a "lucky cap" that has the name of a Taiwanese temple on it. Well, Gustav Iden's done it again.

That's Gustav Iden, winning the Florida's Professional Triatheletes Organization world Championship in Florida on Sunday.

He crosses the finish line wearing his lucky Taiwanese cap, that says Puyan Shunze Temple. He found the cap in Tokyo, hoping it would bring him luck, and it's been his lucky cap ever since

He won with a time of 3 hours, 5 minutes and 6 seconds at the famous Daytona International Speedway in Florida. When Iden approached the finish line, the next runner was nearly a minute behind him. and...Iden was wearing the lucky hat from Taiwan's Changhua County during the whole race.

When the temple heard of his win, they were proud. He says Iden may have received some divine help.

The temple has pictures of Iden's past championships wearing the temple hat.

In September 2019, he won the 70.3 World Championships in Nice, France.

In September this year, he won the Pushing Limits Triathlon in Ratingen, Germany, and Sunday was the third time he won a championship with his lucky Taiwanese hat.

Puyan Township Mayor Hsu Wen-ping says that nowadays a lot of athletes visit their town. In fact two to three hundred just came yesterday.

The lucky Puyan temple hat has not only made global news, it's also brought alot of tourists to Changhua County.

Puyan residents are hoping that Gustav Iden will wear the hat and win a gold at the Tokyo Olympics next year.
