Taiwan’s FDA joins international cosmetics regulation group
Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration has been admitted as a full member to the International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation (ICCR).

Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration has been admitted as a full member to the International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation (ICCR).

The ICCR is an international organization founded in 2007 by regulators in Brazil, Canada, the EU, Japan, and the US. The organization is a platform allowing these regulators to exchange information about their regulations on cosmetics and about trends in their local cosmetics industries.

In the past Taiwan would only learn of new laws on cosmetics in these major markets after the laws were passed and officially made public.

Joining the ICCR as an observer in 2016 allowed Taiwan to get an insider view of discussions between members about issues such as the safety of certain ingredients in cosmetic products. Taiwan has since passed a law called the Cosmetic Hygiene and Safety Act. This law brings Taiwanese standards more in line with those of ICCR members, reducing barriers to international trade in cosmetic products.

Now, as a full ICCR member, Taiwan has been able to take part in the ICCR’s 14th annual meeting, held on December 7, alongside fellow new member South Korea.
