A magnitude 6.7 earthquake rattled Taiwan on Thursday evening at 9:19PM local time. The epicenter of the tremor was under the Pacific Ocean off the coast of eastern Taiwan’s Yilan County. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 76.8 kilometers and could be felt all across Taiwan.
The Central Weather Bureau reports that there were a total of eleven aftershocks after the primary earthquake, three of which were big enough to be felt. The bureau says that the aftershocks were likely a result of increased tectonic activity after the main tremor.
The bureau also says that more aftershocks of magnitude 4.0 or above may occur in the coming week.
