RTI to resume shortwave broadcasts in the Korean language

Radio Taiwan International is set to resume shortwave broadcasts in the Korean language on Sunday after a hiatus of 15 years. RTI broadcast programs in the Korean language from 1961 until 2005, when budgetary adjustments saw the Korean Service closed.

The station held a reception to celebrate the resumption of Korean-language programming on Thursday.

During the event, RTI Chairperson Lu Ping said that she has hoped for the reestablishment of a Korean service since she took up her position four years ago. Lu said the service first resumed broadcasts on YouTube in 2018, and that the addition of shortwave broadcasts in Korean will be a further milestone.

Among those in attendance at the event was South Korea’s representative to Taiwan, Kang Young-hoon. Kang said that the resumption of RTI’s Korean programs comes at a good time for spreading news about Taiwan and connecting people around the world through the airwaves.
