Taiwan family reunites with long-lost Vietnamese caregiver
Vietnamese caregiver Nguyen Thi Nhan and a Wang family girl she cared for.

A Taiwanese family has reunited with its long-lost Vietnamese caregiver after about ten years. It's the fourth such reunion to take place since the project “Search for Your Second Mother” was launched in mid-May.

The project is headed by Radio Taiwan International in cooperation with some 30 civic groups. It aims to help Taiwanese families find and reconnect with former domestic caregivers from Southeast Asia.

The Vietnamese caregiver in the latest reunion is Nguyen Thi Nhan, who was hired by a family with the surname Wang in 2000 to care for their grandfather. While in Taiwan, she also took care of the family’s three children, one of whom is now in college.

Nguyen returned to Vietnam in November, 2007. While she and the Wang family spoke on the phone during Chinese New Year in 2015, they later lost contact.

To help the Wang family find Nguyen, RTI’s Vietnamese service posted the story on Facebook. Within a day, they were able to track her down. Nguyen said she would love to visit Taiwan again. For the Wang family, it’s a dream come true.
