The defense and science ministries are set to pump NT$5 billion (US$178 million) into a program for training future experts in military technologies. The two ministries said Wednesday that the planned investment will take place over the course of five years.
The plan is to set up research centers at three to six universities. These centers will work with the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology and other agencies that work in the national security field. Together, these university research centers and these agencies will set the direction for future research into military technologies and train future experts.
In the initial stage of the program, officials hope to train 150 experts with master’s degrees or doctorates in fields related to military technology. The defense and science ministries hope that significant scholarships will help to attract aspiring experts to the training program.
Science Minister Wu Tsung-tsong says the initial stage of the program will promote research into a range of areas, including telecommunications and smart technology, key systems analysis and integration, and advanced systems engineering.
