A Russian ballet troupe has left Taiwan after several of its members tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the cancellation of a planned Taiwan tour. On Friday, 44 of the troupe’s members left Taiwan on three separate flights.
The Moscow Classical Ballet had planned to perform “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker”, first in Taipei between December 16-20, and then in the southern city of Kaohsiung between December 25-27.
Culture Minister Lee Yung-te says the positive test results show the need for stricter disease prevention measures.
Meanwhile, the Central Epidemic Command Center says that while the 44 performers who left Friday were subject to quarantine, the circumstances that led to the group’s departure were special. The center says that in the past, permission has been granted for others to leave quarantine early as well, due to similar special circumstances, such as the need to attend a funeral.
