Taiwan has welcomed its first snow of the season. On Monday morning, Yushan, Taiwan’s highest peak saw a 0.5cm dusting of snow.

Though wintry scenes are all but unknown in much of Taiwan, the island’s high central mountains do get a certain amount of light snowfall most winters. According to the Central Weather Bureau, Monday’s snowfall on Yushan was the product of seasonal northeasterly winds, which have brought plenty of moisture with them.

With this moisture in the air and temperatures still down at around -3.1C, more snow is likely on its way on the mountaintop.
