President Tsai Ing-wen says that Taiwan’s global edge in the area of semiconductors did not come overnight, and is the result of government support. Tsai was speaking Monday at the opening ceremony of the 11th national science and technology meeting.
The president said that the fierce competition between Beijing and Washington in science and technology has underlined Taiwan’s key role in the semiconductor industry, as Taiwan is the world’s most advanced maker of chips.
Tsai also said Taiwan’s semiconductor success is the result of nearly a decade government involvement in science and technology research and development.
Tsai promised to continue building a business-friendly legal environment suitable for research and development while also ensuring researchers have plentiful resources at their disposal.
