While recent rainfall around Taipei has filled up the Shihmen Reservoir in nearby Taoyuan to 64% of capacity, other areas of Taiwan continue to face water shortages. The Water Resources Agency announced Tuesday that projects to combat these shortages and ensure stable water supplies are ongoing, with two projects slated for completion before the end of the year.
The Water Resources Agency says that its goal remains ensuring enough water for personal and industrial use before the end of May, while also minimizing shortages of water for agricultural uses. The agency says that a total of six projects to alleviate water shortages are underway, including the deployment of mobile water purification equipment and the establishment of desalination plants. Two of these projects—a subterranean water project in Miaoli County and a project to extend water supply pipe networks in an area of northwestern Taiwan—are expected to be completed in the coming days, before the end of the year.
