VIDEO: Tsai’s approval ratings stand at 61%: DPP

A survey released by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) shows that President Tsai Ing-wen’s approval ratings stand at 61%. The DPP attributed Tsai’s popularity to her remarkable performance over the past year.

President Tsai was re-elected in January. She and Vice President William Lai took office in May. According to the DPP survey, 83% of those polled are satisfied with the government’s efforts to keep COVID-19 at bay.

DPP official and lawmaker Lo Chih-cheng said the survey results are a recognition of Tsai’s performance and the joint efforts made by the public to tackle COVID-19 and other economic and social issues.

Despite Tsai’s high approval ratings, however, Taiwan has seen protests against Tsai’s decision to lift the ban on US pork imports containing the feed additive ractopamine.

But Lo said the public has different expectations and he trusts that the Taiwanese people will continue supporting the government’s reform agenda.
