When you think of a classroom, you might think of rows of uniform chairs and desks facing a blackboard up front. Most people won’t think of aesthetics when it comes to classroom designs. But one school in Hualien opts to be different.
Dong Hwa Primary School in Hualien has a classroom with a huge new blackboard that takes up almost the entire wall, stretching from the floor to the ceiling.
The school is one of 100 schools selected by the education ministry to receive subsidies for beautifying their classrooms. The school also transformed a spare room into a reading lounge with new book cases and seating so children can pick a book and read during breaks. Classrooms are also decorated with new colors, symbolizing Hualien’s sea, mountains and its famous marble.
The new features have brought much joy to the students and have also shown how aesthetics can make a difference.
