The foreign ministry says it’s pleased that the US Congress has allocated US$3 million for the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF).
The GCTF is a platform through which the US, Taiwan, and Japan aim to continue expanding professional cooperation. Since its inception in 2015, GCTF has expanded to include cooperation in the areas of public health, law enforcement, women’s empowerment, and good governance.
The US Congress passed an appropriations bill for fiscal year 2021 on Monday that sets US$3 million aside for the GCTF platform.
On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Spokesperson Joanne Ou said that the allocation signals the US Congress’s strong bipartisan support for relations between Taipei and Washington. Ou said Taiwan's government will continue deepening partnership with the U.S on the existing foundation.
