The government’s triple stimulus voucher program ended on Thursday. The government implemented the program in response to COVID-19’s negative impact on Taiwan’s economy.
Under the program, Taiwan residents could exchange NT$1,000 in cash for NT$3,000 worth of stimulus vouchers. The vouchers could be exchanged for a wide array of goods and services, with a few restrictions. Vendors that accepted the stimulus vouchers were able exchange them for cash at participating financial institutions all across Taiwan.
The deadline for spending the vouchers was on December 31.
The economics ministry says that 23.32 million people participated in the program, meaning that 98.35% of the population received vouchers. It says that the program successfully revitalized the retail and restaurant industries in Taiwan between July and November last year.
