Taiwan reported two new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. This brings the total number of cases Taiwan has reported so far up to 819.

The two new patients come from Indonesia and the Philippines, respectively.

In addition, the Central Epidemic Command Center announced Wednesday that two patients previously confirmed to have COVID-19 have contracted a mutated variant of the COVID-19 coronavirus. One was a passenger on a flight from the UK late last year, the first flight from the UK to arrive in Taiwan after Taiwan put new entry restrictions in place to keep the new variant of the virus out. The second is a British man who recently developed COVID-19 symptoms while in home quarantine.

Taiwan has now reported four cases of COVID-19 involving the new strain. However, all four patients are safely in quarantine.
