Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu says that Thursday morning’s US-Taiwan Political and Military Dialogue was a success. He said the two sides communicate regularly on a number of issues and will continue to strengthen political and economic ties.
The dialogue took place via video call due to safety concerns about COVID-19.
Minister Wu declined to comment on details of the discussion out of respect for the US and Taiwan’s mutual trust. However, a senior National Defence minister said the talks focused on exploring areas of practical cooperation.
The foreign ministry said that US-Taiwan relations are as close as they have ever been. It said China’s opposition to the talks would have no effect on US-Taiwan cooperation.
