Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu has expressed his regret after a crowd of Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol building. The violent incident temporarily stopped US lawmakers from validating Joe Biden’s electoral victory over Donald Trump.

Capitol police fatally shot one woman and made numerous arrests.

Minister Wu said on Thursday that the Foreign Ministry felt regret over the whole situation and would continue to monitor developments. He also noted that Washington, D.C. had enacted an overnight curfew, and urged Taiwanese citizens in the area to remain vigilant and stay indoors.

Wu said that Taiwan’s representative office in the United States will do all it can to help citizens in need.

Violent clashes in the Capitol building on Wednesday forced police to evacuate some lawmakers and lock others in their chambers.

A police official also reported that three people died in the Capitol area after ‘separate medical emergencies’.
