Taiwan’s recent cold snap has brought snowfall to mountains in the north and center of the island.
Friday saw snow falling on Yangmingshan and Hehuanshan, two popular spots for enjoying Taiwan’s mountain scenery.
According to the Central Weather Bureau, temperatures on Hehuanshan will hover just below freezing on Friday. Local workers said snow began to fall between 4 and 5a.m., covering the area in 2cm of snow.
Earlier weather forecasts for snowfall sent crowds of so-called ‘snow chasers’ into Taiwan’s highlands to enjoy the rare spectacle.
Local transport authorities and police have imposed travel restrictions and asked drivers to install snow chains on their tires.
