US Ambassador to the UN, Kelly Craft, says that Taiwan is a model for the world when it comes to democracy, equality for women, innovation, and scientific exploration. Craft was speaking during a video conference with President Tsai Ing-wen on Thursday.
Craft affirmed the close relationship between Taiwan and the US, and said that the US “stands shoulder to shoulder with Taiwan as pillars of democracy”. She said that the US will always stand by Taiwan’s side.
Craft said that Taiwan is not only an inspiration to the region but also to the world. She also said that President Tsai’s courage and vision have strengthened Taiwan’s global reputation. Craft said Tsai also taught her to “never mistake the present for a determination of the future”.
Ambassador Craft had been scheduled to visit Taiwan between January 13 and 15. However, the US State Department cancelled the trip, along with all other official travel, citing the upcoming transition to the Biden administration.
