The New York Times has selected the southern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung to appear on a list of “52 places to love”. It was the only destination in Taiwan to make the list.

The list recommends Kaohsiung for its rich culinary heritage and night market scene. The contributor also pointed out the great mountains and seascapes the city has to offer as well as its friendly people and rich local culture.

On Friday, Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau chief Chou Ling-wen boasted of the city’s hospitality and inclusiveness. She said the city is gender-friendly and has a lot to offer to different groups of people.

Because COVID-19 made travel impossible last year, the New York Times did not turn to its correspondents for suggestions for the list. Instead, it sought recommendations from readers. The newspaper got more than 2,000 responses.
