President Tsai Ing-wen says that Taiwan’s economy is thriving, thanks to the country’s success managing the COVID-19 pandemic. She made the remarks on Monday during a visit to a temple in Yilan County.

President Tsai says that last year, Taiwan’s economic growth was fastest among the “Four Asian Tigers”, which also include South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong. Tsai says the government believes it can sustain the country’s economic growth after last year’s success.

The president also praised frontline medical staff for working long hours and putting themselves at risk to help others. Tsai noted that many people have sent food and drink to medical staff to show their support. But, she said, the best way to show support is to wear a mask, wash your hands and follow social distancing guidelines.
