Taiwan has reported four new domestic cases and two imported cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The new local cases are all tied to the cluster of cases at Taoyuan General Hospital in northern Taiwan. That brings the total number of confirmed cases in Taiwan to 868.

The first case in the hospital cluster was a doctor who was treating COVID-19 patients. The center said that it believes that the doctor contracted the virus while treating a patient with a severe case of COVID-19. That patient was a Taiwanese man in his 60s who returned to Taiwan from the United States in December.

The latest domestic cases include another nurse from the hospital, relatives of two prior cases and a foreign caregiver. The new imported cases involve a Taiwanese woman and an Indonesian migrant worker.

In light of the rising number of domestic cases, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung strongly suggests that all upcoming, planned large-size events in Taiwan be cancelled or postponed to a later date.
