Taiwan has reported two new imported cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases Taiwan has recorded so far up to 872. The two new patients both arrived from the Philippines.
Both the patients tested positive in quarantine, and authorities say neither case had any contact with others.
Taiwan has recently reported a cluster of domestic cases associated with Taoyuan General Hospital. This led Health Minister Chen Shih-Chung to say on Thursday that group events will now have to meet strict safety standards. Authorities will also apply crowd control measures in congested areas.
Chen says it is too early to say what the effect of the domestic cluster will be, and Taiwanese people should remain vigilant. But, he says, the new cases are ‘sporadic’, meaning it will not be necessary to impose a lockdown.
