The foreign ministry has thanked the European Parliament for a string of pro-Taiwan resolutions included in a series of three annual reports.
These annual reports cover the EU’s common foreign and defense policies as well as EU-Asia ties.
The resolutions express concern about China’s increased threats towards Taiwan. They also call on the EU and its member states to reevaluate and strengthen exchanges with Taiwan, and to work with international partners to ensure that Taiwanese democracy is not threatened. In addition, the resolutions commend Taiwan for its success in fighting disease and for its large-scale donations of surgical masks to EU member states.
A report on Connectivity and EU-Asia relations also calls on the European Commission to begin talks on a bilateral investment agreement with Taiwan.
The foreign ministry says that in addition to investment, Taiwan and the EU have exchanged views on issues including intellectual property rights and technical barriers to trade. The ministry says that Taiwan will continue to work with the EU and its member states on promoting exchanges in fields such as the digital economy, green energy, and culture and the humanities.
