Google has opened its biggest overseas hardware research and development center in New Taipei. The new office is located in Banqiao's Taipei Far Eastern Telecom Park, and opened Wednesday.
Google Taiwan has one of the largest research and development centers in Asia and is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. It is also the third anniversary of HTC's mobile phone research and development department joining the company.
Google Taiwan is expanding quickly. It has seen a tenfold growth of employees to 2,000 in the past five years. It has offices in six cities and counties and plans to open another new office in Tpark in 2023.
The company plans to hire more employees and interns this year and promote career opportunities for students, women, and the underprivileged.
Google Vice President of Hardware Elmer Peng thanked Taiwan for its excellent work fighting COVID-19. He also thanked the government for supporting and enabling Google to open its new office on schedule.
Office amenities include a health club, massage and nap rooms, restaurants, baristas, game rooms, counseling and medical services and more.
Peng said Taiwan's team will play an important role in developing the Pixel mobile phone, Google Nest, Chromebook notebooks, and wearable devices among other key hardware.
