Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has congratulated Antony Blinken on his confirmation as US Secretary of State. The US Senate confirmed Blinken in a vote on Tuesday.
Wu said that he looks forward to working with Blinken on promoting the values the US and Taiwan share as well as the shared interests of the two sides.
During a confirmation hearing on January 19, Blinken told the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the administration of Joe Biden will continue to abide by the United States’ commitments under the Taiwan Relations Act. The Taiwan Relations Act supports enabling Taiwan to defend itself. Blinken also said that the US hopes Taiwan will be able to play a more important role in international affairs.
