Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan says authorities will conduct a full review of COVID-19 measures at a meeting next Thursday. That’s as authorities in the northern city scramble to contain a recent outbreak of the virus. So far there have been 15 confirmed cases.

Cheng has set February 4 as a so-called ‘checkpoint’ date in the city’s virus containment planning. Until then, he says, authorities will conduct a ‘rolling assessment’ of the COVID-19 situation. The next checkpoints will come during the Lunar New Year and at the end of February.

In recent days, Taoyuan authorities have canceled or postponed a number of large events. Cheng says authorities may allow these events to take place at the end of February.

The mayor also says he is grateful for Kinmen and Miaoli Counties’ support, after mayors from both areas visited to offer medical equipment. Cheng has called for solidarity with Taoyuan, saying ‘pandemic prevention has no color, and this virus has no border’.
