Taiwan and the UK have signed a memorandum of understanding covering the agriculture sector.

The two sides will now set up a platform for dialogue on agricultural issues that will serve as a forum for regular exchanges on agricultural policy and technology, the protection of fish resources, and the prevention of crop and animal diseases.

Taiwan’s representative to the UK and the British representative to Taiwan signed the memorandum in a virtual ceremony held Thursday.

On Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Joanne Ou welcomed the memorandum, saying she believes it will bring exchanges between people in the agricultural industry as well as technical cooperation. Ou said that Taiwan and the UK have concluded nearly 30 similar agreements, covering everything from medicine and youth exchanges to education, culture, and the avoidance of double taxation.
