Taiwan-Poland criminal justice cooperation pact set to take effect
The foreign ministry says the criminal justice cooperation pact that Taiwan and Poland signed in 2019 will soon go into effect.

The criminal justice cooperation pact that Taiwan and Poland signed in 2019 will soon go into effect.

Polish President Andrzej Duda signed the agreement last Thursday after the Polish parliament voted unanimously to pass it.

Poland is the first European country to sign an agreement of this kind with Taiwan. Under the agreement, the two sides will cooperate in the areas of judicial assistance, extradition, transfer of inmates, exchanges of views on legal matters, and sharing information on crime prevention and prosecution.

Taiwan’s foreign ministry says the new pact will help the two countries strengthen judicial cooperation and crack down on cross-border crimes.

The agreement will go into effect once Poland notifies Taiwan of its promulgation in a formal letter.
