The foreign ministry has extended its condolences over the death of US Representative Ron Wright. The Texas Republican died Sunday. He had received treatment for cancer over several years and he had also been diagnosed with COVID-19.
The foreign ministry expressed respect for Wright’s track record of backing pro-Taiwan legislation and for his friendship towards Taiwan. He was one of the sponsors of the TAIPEI Act, which provides US backing for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations and deepens economic and security ties between the US and Taiwan.
He also supported Taiwan’s participation in the WHO and the signing of a US-Taiwan free trade agreement.
