Taoyuan mayor: ban on hospital visits still in place
Cheng said on Wednesday that Taoyuan will continue the ban on visits until the end of the Lunar New Year public holiday on January 17.

Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan says that Taoyuan’s ban on hospital visits will continue until the end of the Lunar New Year period. That comes just a day after the Central Epidemic Command Center announced on Tuesday that hospital visits are now allowed.

Authorities initially imposed the ban in response to a cluster infection of COVID-19 in the Taoyuan area. That cluster has led to 21 domestic infections to date. Authorities say that the outbreak is now over.

However, Cheng said on Wednesday that Taoyuan will continue the ban on visits until the end of the Lunar New Year public holiday on January 17. That said, authorities say they will allow hospitals to formulate their own policies on patient visits during the New Year period. That could mean some hospitals return to the system in place elsewhere in Taiwan. Under that system, patients can have only two visitors at a time, and visits must take place at a certain time of day.
