The Japanese government has thanked Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen for a Tweet she sent out on Sunday. Tsai was expressing her concern after a magnitude 7.3 earthquake rocked the Japanese prefectures of Fukushima and Miyagi late on Saturday night.
In her Tweet, Tsai said she hoped for the safety of all Japanese citizens. She said she is always willing to help Japan in a time of need.
Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato thanked Tsai for her concern during a press conference on Monday morning; he was responding to a question from a reporter. Kato said the Japanese government will assess the situation in the affected areas before deciding whether external assistance is needed.
