Taiwan’s flag carrier, China Airlines, has canceled plans for a February 28 evacuation flight that would have returned Taiwanese citizens from the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar. The country has seen large-scale protests since a February 1 military coup.
However, the airline still plans to operate other evacuation flights departing from Yangon, the country’s largest city, on February 21, March 14, and March 28.
The foreign ministry says that there are around 1000 Taiwanese nationals in Myanmar. Their number includes businesspeople working for the 270 Taiwanese companies that have set up shop in the country.
