Job bank 104 has released data showing a sharp single-day jump in the number of companies listing job openings and the number of people applying for new jobs on Wednesday. The jump coincides with the first day back to work after the Lunar New Year holiday.
The job bank says that nearly 35,000 companies posted job ads on Wednesday, a 16% increase when compared with the first day back from work after last year’s holiday. Meanwhile, the number of applicants for jobs jumped 15% compared to last year’s first post-holiday workday.
The sector with the largest number of jobs on offer was electronics and IT. Following that came hospitality and dining, ordinary manufacturing, wholesale and retail, and construction.
A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, companies in the medical field showed strong demand for workers too, but industries hit by the pandemic, such as logistics and the service sector saw reduced demand for workers.
